Aqua fit

VYC Aquafit

Days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Start time: 11:15am to End time: 12:00am

Once again, this summer, Valleycrest will be providing Aquafit classes from Monday to Thursday at Valleycrest.

Mirella is a YMCA certified Aqua-fitness instructor. She is a regular at the West Island YMCA, where she has been teaching Aquafit classes the past five years. Mirella also substitutes at indoor pools in Pierrefonds West.

Mirella will be teaching the classes on Monday and Thursday.

Valleycrest staff instructors will be teaching the Tuesday and Wednesday classes.

All instruction takes place in the shallow end of the pool, with the water at chest level. A participant doesn’t not need to be a swimmer or athlete, in order to take part in Aquafit.

The Aquafit classes offered at Valleycrest this summer are dynamic 45-minute classes consisting of a 5-minute warm-up, 30-minute cardiovascular exercises, followed by a 15-minute muscular conditioning and stretching component.

The classes are always set to fun and upbeat music.

Adults of all ages and all fitness levels are welcome!

What is Aquafit?

Aquafit (or aqua aerobics) was originally developed for patients undergoing physical rehabilitation, pregnant women and mobility-challenged people. It has since developed into a universal fitness program.

The classes consist of cardiovascular and muscle strengthening moves that use water resistance to generate forces, which against your body will work.

Classes are set to music, with the instructor demonstrating the moves from the pool deck, so that everyone can easily follow along from the water. Valleycrest will supply any equipment needed, such as pool noodles and flutter boards.

The main exercise moves include jogging, kicking, jumping, knee-ups and knee
curls. Upper-body moves include punches and slices. Aquafit sessions also include arm, leg and back stretches to improve flexibility.
