The Valleycrest Aquatic Association (VAA) is a non-profit organisation that works in partnership with the Borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro to provide an aquatics program at Valleycrest Pool.
Some of the VAA’s responsibilities include:
- The hiring and management of all coaches and instructors
- Developing the activity programming which includes all lessons and competitive teams
- Generating membership in the association, and collecting fees to fund programming
The VAA is managed by 6 volunteer directors (currently one open position), which includes a consultative position held by the association’s past President. Effective the 2014 swimming season, these positions are held by:
Laura, a mother to one daughter and two step sons has dedicated the past 14 years to her family. Once her daughter started school, she became a volunteer on various parent committees at Lester B. Pearson School Board recently being elected as the Parent Commissioner for Secondary Schools. Laura also has volunteered her time for Valleycrest as Swim Meet Manager, Vice-President and now President. She has worked at various indoor and outdoor swim meets and is in the progress of attaining her Level 2 certification from FNQ.
Lorne has been employed for over 25 years at a major transportation company, holding various positions in Accounting and IT over that time. He volunteers as a hockey coach and team manager with Hockey Pierrefonds and Hockey Deux-Rives. Lorne has worked as a swimming official at many indoor and outdoor meets, and holds an Intermediate (Level 2) certification from FNQ.
Rick has worked as an IT professional for the last 20 years. His volunteer experiences includes 6 years serving on the St. Anthony School governing board, 7 years a Scouts Canada leader, and a committee member for the Valleycrest Swimming Club since 2011.
